How To Use Teprenes

What exactly are terpenes?

Terpenes are organic compounds that are made naturally by plants and some insects. They are what give fruits, flowers, and herbs their unique aroma and flavors. When you go to the store and purchase an essential oil you are purchasing a liquid that contains a concentration of the terpenes derived from that plant. For example, essential oil of lavender will be loaded full of linalool, terpineol, myrcene, and many more!

What are terpenes used for?

Terpenes are an incredibly diverse group of compounds that serve many uses. They are used mostly as flavoring agents or for their aromatic qualities and are added to food and beverage products.

How do I use terpenes?

The most important thing to know about using terpenes is they are extremely concentrated and thus require only small amounts to create big aroma and flavor. Adding too many terpenes to your product may give your product an overpowering flavor and/or aroma that is unpleasant.

How can I dilute terpenes?

There are a handful of useful oils that can be used to dilute terpenes. The most common of these include coconut oil (MCT), PG, and PEG. Applying low amounts of heat will aid in the homogenization process. However, the best way to dilute your terpenes are with our Floraplex Terpenes Diluents. Diluting terpenes is very important, these chemicals are extremely potent and should never be consumed in their concentrated forms. For more information on terpene mixing, safety, and calculations, please visit our Terpene Mixology and Mixture Calculator pages. The saftey data sheets (SDS) for each terpene blend and isolate we sell can be found each products’ page, or by visiting our Product Certificates page.
